The Your Money Bus Tour resumed in Boston on October 1, 2009 with a day of free financial advice on City Hall Plaza. Consumers of all backgrounds came to the bus for one on one sessions with financial advisors.

The City of Boston has proclaimed it Financial Literacy Week in honor of the Your Money Bus' visit to the city this week (October 1-2, 2009).

Financial Services Leaders to Hold Press Conference With Massachusetts State Treasurer Timothy Cahill

LOCATION: City Hall Plaza next to Government Center Station

TOPIC: Discussion on importance of financial literacy in the lives of all Bostonians

As part of a free financial advice and education event for the public, the NAPFA Consumer Education Foundation, TD AMERITRADE, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine, FilLife.com and the Office of Massachusetts State Treasurer Timothy Cahill will conduct a press conference regarding the importance of financial literacy and sound personal financial planning by residents in the City of Boston and throughout the Commonwealth.

Brief remarks will be made by William Baldwin, national chair of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), on behalf of the NAPFA Consumer Education Foundation regarding the growing need for Americans to begin taking control of their financial future. Treasurer Timothy Cahill will discuss the importance of financial literacy and what the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is doing to help residents throughout the state. Knight Kiplinger, publisher of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine, will be on hand to provide insight into the financial crisis and the vital steps people can take today to ensure a better tomorrow. Kate Healy of TD AMERITRADE Institutional, a division of TD AMERITRADE Holding Corporation, will discuss the importance of planning for a secure financial future and the critical role financial advisors play in helping raise the level of financial education.

“Too many people are unsure of what the future has in store for them financially. What we are trying to communicate is that people should be focusing on what they can control – their debt and savings. We hope people will come out and take advantage of this opportunity to begin getting their financial lives in order,” said Michael Joyce, CFA, CFP®, chairman of the NAPFA Consumer Education Foundation Board.

Your Money Bus Heading to Boston on October 1-2, 2009!

The Your Money Bus Tour is heading back to Boston, MA on October 1-2, 2009 thanks to the kind invitation of Massachusetts State Treasurer Timothy Cahill. We are going to be back in City Hall Plaza next to the Government Center Station for two days to help Bostonians addresses their personal financial concerns --no strings attached!

In a press release issued today, Treasurer Cahill said, "The Your Money Bus Tour coming to Boston will be a perfect way for families in the area receive free advice on how to manage their personal finances,” said State Treasurer Tim Cahill. “Our office is always searching for new ways to educate the people of the Commonwealth. I hope that many take advantage of the opportunity in Boston, especially those who are financially strapped during this tough economic time.”

Heading To Beantown!


The Your Money Bus tour is coming to a close as it wraps up the last few city stops. This past week the bus has been to Pittsburgh (PA), Rochester (NY) and Burlington (VT). Now the bus is heading to Boston where it will spend May 20-21 communicating the important message of debt reduction and savings with Bostonians.

During the stop in Boston the Your Money Bus is partnering with the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus to conduct the "It's Your Money, Girl" event at City Hall Plaza on May 20th from 10 am to 5 pm. The program is designed to help women become empowered financially. A press conference with several dignitaries will also be held at 1:30 pm. We are expecting Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley and State Senate President Therese Murray to participate.
